[!IMPORTANT] Transition Deadline: All users currently on SMTP or Gmail must transition to SendGrid by March 15th. If no action is taken, your account will automatically move to the Default Setup on that date.
How Your Emails Appear to Contacts
Regardless of which setup you choose, Pete uses your User Name as the "Friendly Display Name."
What they see: "Jon Nolen"
What's hidden: The technical email address is only visible if a contact clicks to "inspect" the sender details.
Option 1: The Default Setup (Quick Start)
This is the fastest way to get up and running. No technical knowledge or DNS changes are required.
The Setup: In Pete, navigate to Settings -> General -> Email Proxy and click “Use SendGrid.”
The Result: Your emails will be sent via a unique system address (e.g.,
[email protected]).Replies: When a lead replies, Pete automatically recognizes that unique address and routes the message directly to your Pete inbox.
Option 2: Custom Domain (Branded)
Recommended for established businesses that want their own domain (e.g., [email protected]) to appear in the "From" field.
1. Choose a Subdomain
In Company Settings, enter the subdomain you wish to use and click "Register Domain".
Tip: Always use a subdomain like email.yourdomain.com. This ensures that these settings never interfere with your primary business email (like Google Workspace or Outlook).
2. Update DNS Records
Pete will provide you with specific CNAME and TXT records. You must add these to your DNS provider (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, etc.).
Propagation Period: It can take 24–48 hours for these changes to update globally.
Zero Downtime: While your domain is "Pending Verification," Pete will automatically use the default domain so your emails are never interrupted.
3. Verify DNS
Once the records are added, click “Verify Domain” in Pete. Once verified, all future workflow and contact emails will reflect your custom domain.
4. Send Test Email
After the DNS records have been updated, input a valid email that you have access to and use the Send Test Email button to confirm everything works.
Common Questions
Does this affect my regular email? No. Because we use a dedicated subdomain, your everyday email service remains completely separate and unaffected.
What if I need help? We offer hands-on assistance for DNS configuration. If you provide us with temporary access to your DNS provider (GoDaddy, etc.), we can handle the setup for you.
Note: During high-volume transition periods, this help is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
